The wrap around deck and screened in porch will make you feel as if you are sitting right on top of the picturesque, cold water, trout stream. An ideal destination for the pursuit of wild Virginia trout, the river also offers countless other recreational opportunities. Easy river access is perfect for rafts, kayaks and floating in inner tubes. For those looking to stay dry, the Jackson River Scenic Trail is located directly behind the cottage and offers up to 20 miles of scenic hiking and biking access on a well maintained, crushed gravel path. The cottage is situated on approximately 4 acres of land with loads of space for other outdoor and field activities. Originally built in the 1920's and newly renovated in 2018/2019, Acorn cottage is a charming single level, two bedroom, 2 bathroom cottage in the small village of Bacova, Virginia. Each bedroom has a bathroom attached. Centrally located in Bath County, it is minutes away from Lake Moomaw, Warm Springs, Hot Springs and the historic Omni Homestead Resort. The cottage is 8 miles, (about 12 minutes) from the Homestead Resort. A great home base for anyone looking to get away and explore Bath county's beautiful hiking trails and fishing holes. ****At the recommendation of our County Health department, due to COVID we have added the following procedures for staying at Acorn Cottage. To protect our guests, housekeeper and ourselves, we are leaving a 2 day gap between each guests stay. The cottage is deep cleaned between each reservation, which includes sanitizing all doorknobs, light switches, telephones and remotes. We also run a whole house circulating fan between each guests stay. During, and at the end of their stay, we ask all guests to seal and put their trash to the garbage bins located in the garage at the cottage. (Tom or I will stop by the garage every three days or so and take the trash to the transfer station.) Guest should run all their dishes through the dish washer. The small washer and dryer in the cottage are for guest's convenience, (we have a commercial washer and dryer we use for all the cottage linens.) At checkout, guests should place all used linens (towels, bathmats etc.) in the cloth laundry bags provided and leave the bags in the back hall of the cottage for pick up. The Homestead Resort, located about 20 miles north on The Sam Snead Highway(route # 220 north) has world famous golf courses and features hot springs and is located in Hot Springs. The Greenbriar Resort is 25 Miles west on I-64 West and also has world famous golf . Both resorts have horse back riding, falconry, guided fishing, boating,and hiking as well as tennis and golf. The Greenbriar also has a full Casino . Both Resorts have great shopping on the premisses or in the local area for the ladies to use while the guys fish. The cottage is good any season of the year and all seasons have their particular activities that are special to the time of year. The general area includes multiple ,hiking trails,rivers ,lakes, and State Parks. The Jackson River Trail is directly across the river from the cottage at about mile marker four. You can Google the trail and see the entire trail as it follows the river upstream towards the Gathright Dam. The trail is about 15 miles long has bathroom facilities at several places along the way. This camp comprised of 40 acres and a mile of frontage on Chimney Run will connect you with the beauty of Bath County by providing a truly outdoor experience while offering modern living conveniences. The property offers an on-property hike of two miles and connects to the Hidden Valley trail system on the Cobbler Mountain Trail. The camp offers room for families to play lawn sports and relax together. Only miles from all that Warm Springs, The Homestead, Lake Moomaw offer and a short hike to the Jackson River in Hidden Valley. This is a camp that prefers the company of our canine friends. With thousands of acres of surrounding forest and wildlife, dogs that chase may need restraint. Two bedrooms are heated, all have power. The outdoor shower offers morning showers above a 200ft bluff oriented to the sunrise. The main shelter offers a full indoor bath, tiled shower, open air (under roof) kitchen, dining and living. The shelter kitchen is fully equipped with cooktop, countertop oven, coffee maker, fridge, cookware and table wares. The camp provides a large in ground firepit for outdoor enjoyment and a custom steel chiminea for fires enjoyed under the shelter roof. The Tannery was built ca. 1820 on Old Germantown Road, an historic central byway, which in its heyday was an important part of revolutionary Virginia and used for the exploration of the then western frontier. Constructed with handmade brick and heart pine beams, The Tannery was initially a blacksmith shop, a tannery and a relay station for riders to obtain fresh horses. In 1997, The Tannery was updated, remodeled and furnished with antiques. Large double back porches overlook two streams, a lovely treed half acre and the Alleghany Mountains.
